Idea and Motivation

Ema-pd.org is a non-profit, non-governmental organization formed to organize European Medical Authority - Panel Debates supported by free of charge publications to facilitate evidence-based choices and progress about health interventions faced by health professionals, patients, and policymakers.

The panel debates at ema-pd.org provide critical reviews of the current state of medical research and practical knowledge in the fields they cover. They evaluate existing work, place it in a meaningful context, and suggest areas where more work and new results are needed. The panel debates also offer annotated insights into the key literature, describe other available resources and new unpublished results. The ema-pd.org is unique in maintaining a suite of high-quality panel debates, which are kept up-to-date by the panelists.

The ema-pd.org is a forum for the debate of leading scientists about what they believe but not necessarily can prove it (not yet). The basic modus operandi behind the ema-pd.org is to gather a hundred (or so) of the most brilliant minds in the world in a room, lock them in, and have them ask each other the questions they were asking themselves.

2 Spring 2019 - Panel Debate Session: 5. Neurodegenerative Conditions

Neurodegenerative diseases are caused by the progressive death of neurons in different regions of the nervous system. The progressive loss of nerve cells is what gives rise to the neurological and neuropsychological signs and symptoms characteristic of each of these disorders.

Cognitive stimulation is the appropriate intervention in these cases. While the progression of these diseases is inevitable, cognitive and functional deterioration can be slowed.
